Hello, My name is Kristin, and I suffer from technophobia. Sometimes I feel like the clique, "you can't teach an old dog new tricks." When I was in school (over 30 years ago) our technology was an overhead projector, and movies on 2 large reels. Our "teckie nerd" was the AV guy who helped the teacher thread the movie, and then return the cart to the library. Now I feel like the teacher. Only instead of threading a movie reel, I must learn how to blog, create a web page, and protopage. Develop a power point, and desktop movie, and then incorporate these new skills in the classroom! Yikes, it sounds a little daunting.
I understand why this class is so necessary, and I definitely see the value of technology in the classroom. I am excited about learning these new skills, and I hope that I don't get too stressed out in the process. For my own experience, I would feel so much more confident if I took this course in a real classroom, and not on-line. However, making mistakes and trial and error are great teachers. So far, so good...not perfect, but hey, I'm learning.
I think that I will enjoy blogging, and I plan on introducing blogging to my own class. I work with kids with autism, and some of my students have a hard time verbalizing their thoughts and feelings. Blogging would be a wonderful tool for them. In fact all these new skills I'm learning will enhance my classroom.
